Most Important Run Commands Windows Users Should Know

“\” : One of the quickest ways to access the C drive.

“.” : Opens the current user’s home folder which hosts all the other local folders.
 
 “..” :
 Opens up the Users folder which is located directly in the C drive.

calc : Quickly opens the built-in Windows calculator app.

cmd : Quickly opens the command prompt without administrator privileges.

powershell : Opens PowerShell without administrator privileges.

netplwiz : Opens the Advanced User Accounts window.

gpedit.msc : Group Policy Editor.

lusrmgr.msc : Opens the Local Users and Groups Manager.

mrt : This tool helps you in cleaning some of the most popular malicious software from your Windows computer.

ncpa.cpl : To access all your Network Adapters, you can use this Run command.

perfmon.msc : Monitor the performance of your Windows computer and effects of the programs you run.

powercfg.cpl : Power Options.

appwiz.cpl : Access the Programs and Features window to uninstall your installed programs.

Most Important Mac Shortcuts



Apart from the known shortcuts like command + "C" to copy, command + "X" to cut, command +"V" to paste… Mac users should know other important shortcuts to facilitate the use of their laptops. And this is what we’re going to see in this article.

Shortcuts to use within open applications and windows

 

Command + W : quickly closes the current tab on your web browser.

Command Key + Q : Quit the frontmost application.

Command + H : Hides the current application and all of its windows.
Command Key + N : Create a new document in the frontmost application.
Command Key + P : Display the print dialog box.
Command Key + S : Saves the active document.
Command Key + Shift Key + S : Display the Save As dialog box.
Command Key + T : Opens a new tab in a web browser; while in other applications displays the Fonts window.
Command Key + Z : Undo previous command (some applications permit multiple Undos).
Command Key + Shift Key + Z : Redo previous command (some applications permit multiple Redos).

Shortcuts for selecting and acting on selected items


Command Key + A : Selects all items in a document or window (or on the desktop if no window is open), or all characters in a text field.
Command Key + B : Boldface the selected text or toggle boldfaced text on and off.
Command Key + C : Copies selected item or text to the Clipboard.
Command Key + E : Uses the selection for a Find.
Command Key + I : Italicize the selected text or toggle Italic text on and off.
Command Key + V : Paste the Clipboard contents at the location of the cursor.
Command Key + X : Cuts the selected item and stores it in the Clipboard.

Other


Command Key + Tab : Move forward to the next most recently used application in a list of open applications.
Command + Option + M : Minimizes all your windows so you can create the illusion of a fresh start.

Command + F3 : Pushes all your open applications out of the way so you can actually see your desktop.

Command + a Number : Helps you easily scroll through the respective tabs in your web browser

Option+Shift+F11+F12 : Will lower or raise the volume in smaller increments than the typical volume symbols. 

Control+Option+Command+8 : Reverses the colors on your screen.
1, 2, 3 will advance the video to 10% completion, 20% completion, 30% completion, respectively (and so on and so forth).

Option+Delete : Deletes entire words so you don't have to hold down the delete key forever.

Control+Command+D : Will define any highlighted word.

Control+Command+V : Pastes your copied text without including its formatting.

Command+Up and Command+Down : Will make your scroll jump.

Control+Option+Command+Eject : Quickly shuts down your computer.

 Search the Web, iCloud locker and your local files.
