How to Speed Up your Slow Windows PC

Windows laptops typically slow down as applications are installed and used. And that’s because hard drives fill with temporary files that do not always get removed when no longer needed.
Hard disks can succumb to this wear and tear over time, and this article will teach you the steps for Microsoft Windows users that can help speed up the computer or determine why the computer is running slow.

Reboot

If your computer has not been rebooted recently, make sure to reboot it before following any of the steps below.

NOTE : Before you start i advice you to free up some hard Disk space by following this link here then follow this article for more solutions.

Limit how many programs run at startup

Many programs are designed to start automatically when Windows starts, they tend to run in the system tray, or notification area. Software manufacturers often set their programs to open in the background, where you can't see them running, so they'll open right away when you click their icons. That's helpful for programs you use a lot, but for programs you rarely or never use, this wastes precious memory and slows down the time it takes Windows to finish starting up. These applications remain hidden behind the up arrow icon at the bottom-right corner of your screen.

Click the up arrow icon near the system tray, right-click any applications you don’t need running in the background, and close them to free up resources.

Disable Unused Startup Programs

Prevent those applications from launching at startup to save memory and CPU cycles, as well as speed up the login process.

On Windows 8, 8.1, and 10, there’s now a startup manager in the Task Manager you can use to manage your startup programs.

You just have to right-click the taskbar > select Task Manager or press Ctrl+Shift+Escape to launch it.

Click over to the Startup tab > Disable startup applications you don’t need.
Windows will tell you which applications slow down your startup process the most.

Lighten Your Web Browser

There’s a good chance you use your web browser a lot, so your web browser may just be a bit slow. So for better user and a faster one it’s best to use as few browser extensions, or add-ons, as possible, those slow down your web browser and cause it to use more memory.
You have to go to your web browser’s Extensions or Add-ons manager and remove add-ons you don’t need.

Defragment Your Hard Disk

Go to My Computer > right-click on the hard drive and select Properties > Under the Tools tab there should be an option to Defragment Now.

Add more memory

To make Windows run faster you should consider adding more random access memory (RAM) to your PC.
If a computer running Windows seems too slow, it's usually because the PC doesn't have enough RAM. The best way to speed it up is to add more.

Check for viruses and spyware

It is possible that your laptop is infected with a virus or spyware.

This is not as common as the other problems, but it's something to consider.

So you just have to check your laptop using antispyware and antivirus programs.

Update your drivers

Drivers not up to date can slow your laptop so you just have to check them using a program of your choice and update those who need to. This can help you to have a faster laptop.

Reset Your PC / Reinstall Windows

If the other steps didn’t fix your problem and your laptop isn’t faster even after rebooting it, the only solution left to fix Windows problems is to get a fresh Windows installation.
In Windows 8, 8.1, and 10, you don’t have to get Windows installation media and reinstall Windows. You just have to simply use the Reset your PC feature built into Windows to get a new, fresh Windows system. This is similar to reinstalling Windows and will wipe your installed programs and system settings while keeping your files.
When you Refresh your PC:
·         Windows will save your personal files, personalization settings, and Modern apps installed from the Windows Store.
·         Windows will reset your PC settings.
·         Windows will remove all installed desktop programs. A list of the removed programs will be saved to your desktop.

When you Reset your PC:

Windows will remove everything. Think of this like doing a complete Windows reinstall and formatting your hard drive.
